Welcome to Argostoli!

Capital and port of the island. It is a vibrant, modern city with good planning. It was almost completely destroyed by the earthquake of 1953 and the buildings were rebuilt, but most of them retain their traditional architecture. At the heart of the city is the stone-built site where tourist shops are concentrated and the church of Agios Spyridon, where the liturgy for the earthquakes of 1953 begins with the accompaniment of the Philharmonic Orchestra on August 12 each year.
Argostoli almost touches the small peninsula of Fanari where the circular lighthouse of Agioi Theodoroi is located, from where one can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets of Kefalonia. The English-built Drapanos Bridge (1813), with arches, survived the earthquake and unites the city with the opposite coast. In the Kutavos lagoon are the ruins of the ancient city of Krani. The remains of the Doric temple dedicated to Dimitra are found in the cave.
8 km southeast of the city is the village of Peratata with the monastery of Agios Andreas of Milapidia where it has been operating since 1988. Its church dates from the 13th century. and was originally dedicated to Our Lady of Milapidia. Also visit the village of Valsamata, on the plateau of Omalos. There is the monastery of Agios Gerasimos, the patron saint of the island, where his sacred scripture is kept. On August 16 and October 20, which is the liturgy of the sacred scene of the saint, thousands of pilgrims from all over Greece gather for pilgrimage.
Another wonderful route is towards the beach of Agia Kiriaki. Passing through the village of Ancona, visit the workshop of the famous painter Livada Razou. You will swim on the beach of EOT, in Platis where there is water sports equipment and Makrigialos, preferred by those who want calm, in Gradakia and Kamaroulas, all with fine sand.
