Welcome to Chios!

It is spread on the east coast of the island opposite the Turkish coast and is built on the site of the ancient city, from which few traces are preserved. The old quarter with its stone buildings, the picturesque market with spices and sweets and the castle attract more and more visitors. Inside the castle is the marble tomb of Kara Ali, who ordered the massacre of the population in 1822 and the Turkish neighborhood.
Also worth a visit is the Byzantine Museum, near Bunaki Square, in the place of an old mosque, the Argentine Ethnological and Folk Museum, housed in the Public Library building; , post-Byzantine frescoes, portable icons and wood carvings, and the Homeric Spiritual Center.
You will swim on the beaches near Chora and south, towards Karfas, on the beautiful white sandy beach, which features sea bikes and canoes.
Take a stroll in Cambos, a suburb that is essentially an extension of the city, full of citrus orchards. Here are the old Genoese mansions, built with “Thymian stone”, a reddish limestone from the village of Thymiana. Behind the tall walls and courtyards with the shelves are pebbly courtyards, stone and marble fountains and overgrown gardens irrigated with manganese.
In both Chora and Kambos you will find many hotels and rooms to let.
The liberation of the island by the Turks is officially celebrated on 11 November. A beautiful custom revives the New Year’s Eve, with Saints’ vapors and plays on the town square. In August, the World Congress of Homogeneous and a host of cultural events are organized.
Festivals take place on August 6, at the Feast of the Savior, on May 14, at the feast of St. Isidore, on the 22nd of July at St. Markella, and on the 15th of August at the Feast of the Virgin.
