Igoumenitsa

Capital of the prefecture, with 10,000 inhabitants, and main port of mainland Greece. It is 480 km from Athens and 470 km from Thessaloniki. The city, especially in summer, is a tourist crossing from Western Europe to mainland Greece and has a good hotel infrastructure.
In the beginning of August, with the participation of foreign folk groups, Thesprotika is organized, a festival of local dances, which also includes film screenings and sports competitions.
Around Hugenitsa you can swim in the beaches of Drepano, which is 4 km away, and Makrygiali, one kilometer further down. It is worth taking an excursion to the beautiful village of Plataria, 13 km from Hugenitsa, which has a very nice beach. You can also go to the Ionian Islands or neighboring Italy from Hugenitsa.
