Milopotamos

The Municipality of Mylopotamos is a municipality in the region of Crete established by the Kallikratis Program. It resulted from the unification of the former municipalities of Geropotamos and Kouloukona and the community of Zonians. The municipality has a historical reference to the former province of Mylopotamos, the total area of ​​which is today partly within the boundaries of the municipalities of Rethymnon, Mylopotamos, Anogeia and Malevizi. The area of ​​the new municipality is 337.93 sq. Km and its population of 14,363 according to the 2011 census. The new municipality was established in Perama. Dimitris Kokkinos (from Livadia) is the mayor of the municipality, who first applied for the municipality of Kouloukona in Mylopotamos Rethymnon in 1998 and was elected Mayor of the then newly formed Kapodistrian Municipality. in which he is constantly elected until today and after his membership in the enlarged municipality of Mylopotamos.
